Life Member: Matthew Blomeley

Matthew Blomeley is an individual who has shown immense dedication and service to the development of Men’s and Mixed Netball in Victoria over many years.

Throughout his time, Matt has engaged in a number of different roles, including, player, coach and committee member. He has demonstrated continuous service to VMMNA since 2001 with no time away from the association during this period.

Matt’s involvement with VMMNA began as a player in the 19 & Under teams for the 2002 and 2003 championships. He then went on to represent Victoria from 2004-2006 in the 23 & Under team, while also having the honour of being Vice-Captain in 2006. Since this time, Matt has had a decorated and successful playing career, being involved in the Men’s Reserves and Men’s Open teams.

While demonstrating commitment to Victoria, Matt has also been successful at representing Australia in various tournaments throughout the years in the Australian 23 & Under teams, as well as the Australian Mixed teams.

Having shown exceptional skill as a player, Matt then when on to assist the next generation of netballers develop their talent through coaching roles with VMMNA. Matt’s particular area of focus for his coaching was the 23 & Under teams, having championed teams to a number of titles throughout his coaching career.

During this time, he was also involved in coaching a number of AMMNA teams, including Australian 23 & Under Coach, Australian 20 & Under Coach, Australian Sonix 17 & Under Coach, Australian Sonix 19 & Under Coach, Australia A Mixed Coach at various international competitions.

Having demonstrated outstanding playing and coaching prowess, Matt then moved on to assisting the VMMNA community as a whole through joining the Committee in 2011. During his time on the committee, Matt has held official roles as Secretary, Uniform Co-ordinator, Committee member, M-League Co-ordinator and more recently as our exceptional President.

While serving on the Committee, Matt has continually brought the needs of the association to the forefront and pioneered change. He is a highly motivated and dedicated individual who has demonstrated this through his years of service to VMMNA.

  • 2016 – Australian 23 & Under Assistant Coach – assisting the team to go undefeated against New Zealand 23 & Under Team in Test Series
  • 2016 – Australian 20 & Under Coach – competing in the Open Division of NZMMNA Championships
  • 2015 – Australian Sonix 17 & Under Coach – competed in NZ Nationals 23 & Under Division
  • Coached the combined 20 & Under / 17 & Under team for exhibition match against combined 23 & Under New Zealand team
  • 2014 – Australian Sonix 19 & Under Coach – Winning Trans-Tasman Series 3-0
  • 2013 – Australia A Mixed Coach – finishing Runners Up at World Championships in South Africa
